Very few young people have the time or money for this kind of sport ... this applies to windsurfing, kitesurfing, and wing/wind foiling. These things are mostly for empty-nest, older males with wives who are not currently putting demands upon them.
It takes courage to be honest this days, and specially in your position . Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I do believe you are not wrong. I had the guy from phantom calling me and shouting at me for asking a question , when you pay so much money it’s not the service you want! I’m prepared to pay the money but I want a smile on my face when I’m using the product . Thanks
Kudos for your honesty ! that was seriously ballsy. Really hope that pans out for you your shop and your channel because everyone WILL benefit longer term
Hi Mario, nice video and exciting statement at the end. I think the issue about "production tolerances" for foils ist similar to the sail masts, isn't it. Somehow it's disappointing because the customer pays a lot but doesn't know what will be delivered. Hand loose, Jochen
Looks well thought out and well made, and good on the water according to you. I'd be curious to try with my gear as you never know how it will go together. My NP F4 was nice but its short fuselage made me want more longitudinal stability. My Lokefoil provides that, but its center of lift is too far forward for my board, I spend my life seating on my front leg, despite the negative shim on the stab. Plus it is a bit treacherous, sometimes you get parasite movements from nowhere, not great to be confident on the water.
Great video. I’m a relative novice with foiling, using a Starboard Freeride foil set up (and Starboard Freeride 150 foil board). Trying to get the right rear shim versus UJ position, to balance everything out is still annoying me, as I try to sail the thing at a consistent ride height. In 2024, I’m staggered that production tolerance is so bad in this expensive (for individuals to purchase) kit as you say. Is the same true of carbon masts and fins?
I had an f4 freerace wingfoil full carbon mast, with 2mm thick trailing edges. I switched to gong hm107 now which is great fun for me and gets me over 50kmh. 🎉 Made a few 115cm foilmasts myself and getting them thin AND stiff gets exponentially harder!
After using my old foil for a handful of years by now this is on my radar for sure. What would you recommend as a freerace and more affordable set with 2 front wings? Wind range 10kn to 18kn. Past this, I'm still grabbing my fin setup, sorry 😅
Hi Mario Very interesting to hear your thoughts on the AEON foil system, especially the quality control from the point of view of not only an expert rider but also shop owner and dealer!. As a freeride intermediate windfoiler I am not really in the market for such expensive high performance equipment BUT do you have any experience of the Patrik's more affordable AIO windsurf foils? I do not see any visibility of this product line in the windsurf media but only on Patrick's own website.
I have the Starboard IQFoil one and I feel slow as hell. Especially since mine is actually ASYMETRICAL (about 2/3mm towards one side) but because of buyin it second hand I can’t really complain… Not enough money for the better ones 😅
Checked last PWA at Sylt and I was surprised to see that a lot of well knows riders were using Patrik foils (even when their main sponsor has a foil suited for PWA). To name a few in no particular order : Blanca Alabau Justine Le Metayer Marion Mortefon Daniele Benedetti Matteo Iachinno Yohan Soe Michele Becker Cedric Bordes Alexandre Cousin Enrico Marotti Thomas Goyard Maciek Rutkowski And there were other less known riders on Patrik too. Thanks for the video, does Patrik recommend shimming the box so the mast head bottoms out? Do they recommend changing the rake depending on the conditions?
The first thing I don’t know - the second thing depends on your board. Most riders use 3.5 - 4 degrees of rake depending on the conditions. In big chop I feel that 3,7 degree are just perfect.😊
Good video. I am planning to buy this AEON foil for next season. I am on Z fins now. Before that had the Starboard. For me, the Z is faster, more controll but less stable and more with the Dolphin effect. I hope to find the stability in the AEON and for sure the speed. Did 57 max on the Z now.
@@MarioKuempel i am sure, I did not see on which angle you had the mast. The mast overlays the board a little bit like you show in the vid. But what if you change the angle of the mast to more positif (like 4 degrees). Then the overlay does not touch the board anymore because of the angle?
Thanks for calling out the "foil scam" at the end of the video. I experienced really bad fit and finish from Starboard Foils. It seemed they have both poor quality control and poor customer service. Many hours wasted on fixing the issues.
Mario, what you said near the end of the video is the same way I felt about windsurfing in the old days. In those days of racing in the 80s and 90s, the pros were sponsored by board companies but did not ride those boards! All their boards were custom made but used production board graphics of the companies that sponsored them. This was done to make you think the pros were riding the same boards available to the public. Unless you knew the lie, you were buying a completely different board that what you thought you were getting.
@@MarioKuempel so why don't they cut it themselves before selling it? You say in the vid "you have to cut it off according to your foil", I guess you meant according to your board? Still strange since all brands have deep tuttle boxes, right?
Awsome video and review 🤙🏻 Do U know if moving the stab forward will facilitate pumping - shorter fuse more power?! Until now I have only tried the back position of the stab. Cheers
Great review. I will be nervous cutting foil mast top to fit to my box. Was there a cutting line? How much price and performance difference in between the mast and fuselage available for recreational use?
Thanks! I was nervous too…🤣 I don’t know the exact difference but it appears to be small. You get more controll with the cheaper set and a bit less speed. Apparently that’s quite good for non pros - but the pros of course need the max speed.
So you would like to grade the parts? A grade, B grade and so on? Cpu's and gpu's have been sold for very different prices based on the grade or bin as it's called.
That would be actually perfect. If all brands would measure their stuff accurate and then give grades (and discounts according to that) it could be amazing for everyone!!

:-) LG, Mario
The foil has to lift your weight (or a heavy sailor) plus the board so it can handle those kind of pressures. The no skrews pressure repartition is very nice though and very well thought.
Isn’t it the same thing with sail masts? Pros test tons of masts and pick the best ones, although it should be all the same. I m happy with my iq foil. But a smaller Frontwing for high winds would be nice
It sometimes is, but with foiling the differences are a lot bigger. Pros often get pre selected special treated parts that are not even available on the market. It’s also same with lots of board brands, sails, fins,… It just is most crazy with foils, since the foil is the most important part of a foil windsurf gear. If it does not work it’s game over. If your board has 0,5cm wrong shape it’s also problematic, but the issue is way smaller. A mast curve can be compensated to some degree with trim. A sail can be tuned. But a foil mast can not be forced to be stiffer or thinner or more symmetric.
If you watch the Windsurfing TV interview, you'll find out that the small stabilizer is just the next size with the tips of the file cut off. So, maybe you can re-purpose the one you damaged.
I’m no expert, but; I suggest riding closer to the mast based on this video. And trying to spend more time with the mast at a slightly forward angle. I think you’ll raise your speed.
With foiling this is different - the further you are away from the mast, the more control you get and the faster you go. :-) Pro´s are using up to 50" harness lines - its crazy.
@@MarioKuempel interesting… I guess it equals more lift? I meant it when I said I’m not expert.. I actually just learned this is a thing.. foiling with sails… hope I get a chance to fall off one someday
Thank you for being honest Mario! Unfortunately it is true! I got a second class sail and they would not help me. It is not fun at all to pay thousands of euros for your equipment and get worse performance / workmanship than the other guy who payed the same amount. The industry needs to do better otherwise windsurfing is going to decline again. Foiling is a big boost for sure because it at least doubles or quadruples the time on water but getting shit service in a sport that is extremely expensive, difficult and demanding in terms of equipment care, storage, transport... is not a good combination. It's awesome to see Patrik giving value to the customer! And finally a quick mention of Ezzy Sails for making top quality products and having stellar service! A zillion times better than the other sail brand I left unmentioned here.
i like still after all this time my Original Neil Pryde Foil as it knows no Limits just Damn Scary.. and for the Modern High Powered Super Scary modern Foils Yikes thats a hole new can of worms..
So ture.... I have been imported more than 25 foils from starboard, but their foils were just insanely horrible. They even introduced c300 masts and they are faggy, that even makes wale sound on the water. I claimed a warranties and even insisted to send them to check on my cost, but they repeated to say there is no way it is that fat. Refused to provide the thickness in numbers, and guided me to sand them with RUclips instruction. And yes. They refused the warranty once again because I sanded it. No more starboard in my life.
Old windsurfer. I liked the whole foil concept till I saw the price. I mean for just the foil you can get a whole windsurf set, which to most is expensive enough. Windsurfing already became a sport for the fortunates these foils are worse. Hearing about varying quality I will stick to the water. Back when I learned everyone was having fun on huge boards which were near indestructable. Skill won races, over equipment. If I am honest those were the best days. Really cool vid though the tech is crazy.
yet I won't exchange my "mordern" gear with gear from the old days. I still use a Fanatic Ultra Cat from 1990 also but I won't go into 30kg boards and triangular dacron sails anymore except once a year at most for the lol. I am really happy that foiling is a thing now, new exhilarating sensations with small sails (the same I use on fin) when the wind would otherwise be useless (not fan of Formula gear). I can have heap of fun with a little wind on my foil, and with more wind on my fins. (But I won't buy this 7k neatly designed Patrik foil anytime soon).
@@MarioKuempel the wings do not have much more power than the z . But the foil is really stable and really fast when you hit a wind hole. Also it is a lot easier to jibe than the z…. Speedwise it isn’t that big gap- but stiffness wise- it is huge

The hype is real
Isn’t it the same thing with sail masts? Pros test tons of masts and pick the best ones, although it should be all the same. I m happy with my iq foil. But a smaller Frontwing for high winds would be nice
It sometimes is, but with foiling the differences are a lot bigger. Pros often get pre selected special treated parts that are not even available on the market. It’s also same with lots of board brands, sails, fins,…
It just is most crazy with foils, since the foil is the most important part of a foil windsurf gear.
Saw it, was super interesting!
Sehr interessant, danke Mario!
Sehr gerne!
How fast?
Watch until the end
The titanium fuselage is made of materials imported from Russia.😮
congrats to 20k+ subs 🎉 english seems to work 🤙👍
i like still after all this time my Original Neil Pryde Foil as it knows no Limits just Damn Scary.. and for the Modern High Powered Super Scary modern Foils Yikes thats a hole new can of worms..
Perfect Gear !
Die Mitarbeiter der Windlounge sind aber gut abgehangen
i use iq foil, I got relly lucky to get a good mast. My friends mast is so different then mine, basically like using aluminium mast :D
🤣
How blooming fast .
Foil sailing is a small world in reality. One has two try and enjoy being part of a research and development process.
True!!
Hopefully the Aeon factory staff didn't take that arm medicine💀
MK II 😂
yet I won't exchange my "mordern" gear with gear from the old days.
WOW.
Rumours are dangerous biased things. Facts speak millions.
Changed from z to aeon
How’s the difference?
@@MarioKuempel the wings do not have much more power than the z .
But the foil is really stable and really fast when you hit a wind hole. Also it is a lot easier to jibe than the z…. Speedwise it isn’t that big gap- but stiffness wise- it is huge
Veo la constante búsqueda de nuevas formas . Pero observo ,que se pierde estética con tanta aparatologia en el agua o en el Cielo.

bad repeatability sounds like made in china production
?
@@MarioKuempel One important factor in mfg is to be repeatable. You mentioned that the parts of other brands were all over the place that means the parts were either very loose tolerance or just not very repeatable which are very typical of made in china products
